Technology = Math

Help me give my students a technological dream come true when they complete mathematical equations, expressions, and story problems.

My Students

Sixth grade can be a really stressful time for children, especially now that we are at the middle school. Many of my students are finally adjusting to having 7 classes, seeing over 100 friends each day, and on top of that, figuring out how to manage COVID at the middle school level.

In my class, my main objective is that my students feel successful and that they belong every single day.

Math is a hard subject to master, there are so many moving parts and formulas to remember. I try to take the burden of typical math off my students shoulders and make learning fun again. We've been using technology, not only to combat COVID, but to make mathematics fun and engaging for my kiddos.

My Project

During the first wave of COVID, I found that my students love escaping into the Minecraft realm. They were able to create what they wanted and have no real barriers. I became a Minecraft Certified Educator so that I could let me students have the experiences they wanted in my classroom.

Minecraft is a hard program to operate on Chromebooks, having the Xbox controllers would be a dream come true for my kiddos.

We have already explored ratios and fractions in Minecraft and soon we will exploring algebra, geometry, and statistics in Minecraft. I want my students to enjoy their learning and the math concepts we are learning in class. These controllers would give my students the freedom that they crave during COVID to create endless mathematical creations.
