Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a school where most of our students come from low income families. Every student in my school receives free or reduced lunch. Most of our families are migrant families that come especially from Mexico to work in agriculture such as picking strawberries. Even though most families are very working, they are always interested in their children's education. We work hand in hand to make those children have success. I know that having access to more technology in the classroom will make their future even brighter.
My Project
I want to use the iPads during my small group instruction. I met a teacher from a different school and she was telling me all about the strategies that her students are using to practice reading . It all sounded great until I asked: but how do they do all that? She answered: with our classroom iPads! Don’t you have iPads in your classroom? My answer was “no” with a sad face. I would love to have at least a set of 5 iPads to use them a rotation center. I have learned of very useful apps that are good for practicing phonics, fluency and reading comprehension. I even heard of an app were students could read and record themselves. I am really excited about this app especially because there is always at least one student that is too shy to share in front of everyone, but with the help of technology it could be alot more fun to participate.
