Our school is the true definition of a community school. We live in a socioeconomically depressed area where many of my students come from a single parent home, many of which have parents who work multiple jobs to provide for their families. We are the fourth poorest school district in New York State. Even despite these challenges, my students come to the classroom everyday happy and energized to learn. Many of my kiddos don't have WiFi let alone technology at home to help enhance their learning. They are captivated by what little technology we have in our school, I would like to bring them opportunities where they can experience learning in a fun and innovative way in a comfortable atmosphere that is beyond their imagination.
My goal is to provide my students with their own technology device in the classroom that will aid in their learning to read, practice math concepts, experience interesting science content, and allow them to open so many academic doors that they never knew were possible!!!
My Project
Two areas my students struggle with the most are math and reading. If each of my students are able to have their own tablet I could personalize their apps to help them excel in the areas that are most needed in reading and math.
For example, one student could have an app specific to work on multiplication facts, while another could have an app to help them improve their reading fluency by allowing them to read materials that peak their interest.
This technology would afford them opportunities that they have never had and would allow me to reach all the diverse learners in my class.
