My Students

Hello, I am fortunate to be the teacher of 22 of Los Angeles brightest wonderful Kindergarten students. I am in need of some technology. I need an Apple iPad 2 to continue to inspire my students to learn in a new ways. The iPad has many wonderful educational apps that allow the children to learn.

The kindergarten students in my class live in the projects and in extreme poverty.

My goal is to try to expose them to as much as possible in their learning experiences. My students are eager to learn and do not have technology available at home. They have learned many new things, have varying learning styles and I personally feel that as a teacher I need to tap into all of their different learning styles to reach each student. Without technology and through the use of culturally relevant strategies, since September I have managed to teach the students all of their alphabets, sounds and many are reading. Imagine what I could do with the aid of technology and the iPad2.

My Project

My project Technology in the Neighborhood, would bring the iPad2 into my classroom giving my students more opportunities to grasp concepts they are having difficulties with. With the budget crunch this year we have no extra money to buy technology for the classroom. The iPad2 has app’s available for almost every academic need. If they need help learning numbers they can have fun playing a game that will help them recognize numbers. They can continue to develop their phonemic awareness skills in fun ways. There are virtual science experiments they can view to reinforce what has been taught. That gives me more time to work one to one with either advanced students or students with special needs. The iPad is easy to use and the learning apps are so fun the children’s knowledge will grow rapidly. Without the iPad my students are missing out on all of the great things technology has to offer.

Support towards an iPad2 for my students would be greatly appreciated.

In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is most important.” As a teacher, I have the kids motivated and would like them to have the exposure to engaging technology they would not normally have access to.
