Technology in the Classroom

My Students

My students come in every day ready to work since I have been incorporating technology use into the science curriculum. Children these days learn in such a variety of ways, much different than my generation.

After I introduced the use of tablets in my classroom, the number of assignments that are completed has increased drastically.

Students already have the world at their fingertips since the world is "going digital." Students are using their phones to access information, so in my classroom, we use tablets (parental control enabled) to complete engaging activities such as virtual labs, watch educational videos of scientific phenomena, and play competitive games to review material we have learned.

Class lectures are delivered through Nearpod, so they have what I have on my screen on their tablet at the same time. This also helps the students that have attention disorders and those that have trouble seeing the board.

With the push in the school system to go paperless, our copy resources are low. Our community is in a rural area with a high poverty rate, with a lack of access to internet or technological resources outside of the classroom. Our activities help increase their digital literacy skills.

My Project

Students live in a world of technology, but in rural areas, it is hard to bring it to them. We are encouraged to teach students how to use technology as much as possible, but it is difficult to instruct students when we do not have one to one ratio with devices.

We need to replace some of the tablets that we purchased years ago as they wear out.

In my classroom, I try to use technology every day, which means that the devices will wear out over time and need to be replaced. The science department invested in a few class sets of tablets a few years ago, but we no longer have the funding to obtain replacement technology.

Being able to have the technology in the classroom has revolutionized the way that I deliver content to my students. Students need to learn how to navigate online class content for their college classes so they are also preparing for the future.
