This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I service students in a K-6 school. They live in a lower socioeconomic community where many come from single parent homes. Close to 80 percent of students at our school receive free or reduced price lunches. Our community is very transient, which means that these kiddos have moved around a lot and had their education disrupted by changing schools. Academically the students in my school struggle and have little outside of the school to help support them in their schooling. They learn best when they can use their senses to help them understand new concepts.
My Project
My students come from a low socioeconomic community and do not have access to a lot of technology in their homes. But technology s a wonderful tool to help them learn and to help them engage more in their learning than with just paper and pencil.
I am fortunate enough to have a classroom set of iPads for my students.
With the iPads, students can access the online math curriculum to watch videos on the concepts they are learning, play learning games, create paper slide shows to demonstrate their understanding or take practice quizzes. iPads are expensive, so keep this technology in the classroom, I need a container to lock them up and keep them charged when not in use.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
