This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The population my school serves is mostly minority students comprised of 70% Black Non-Hispanic (a vast majority of these are of Haitian-Creole descent), 22% Hispanic, 5% White Non-Hispanic, and 3% Asian/Indian/Multiracial.
The school as a whole is classified as a Title I school, which is a school with a high percentage of children from low-income families, to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.
We are designated as a STEM school and the students I personally teach are represented in our STEM-based magnet program.
My Project
I would like to use this Surface Pro tablet to allow my students to create digital projects that tie in with our STEM curriculum while participating in physical education. There are several apps and features on this tablet that would be useful.
My class will be able to infuse technology with fitness--a digitally 'active' class.
One of its primary uses is it will allow my students to use fitness-based apps that they may not normally have access to.
It will have other uses such as allowing students to take photos or record themselves for instant feedback or to create instructional fitness lessons. The productivity apps would be useful for note-taking and illustrations.
