My students need a document camera, whiteboard and laptop for a way that engages them in lessons. Reading from a book is not keeping their attention, interacting with the story will create a meaningful experience.

My Students

It is so hard to make learning meaningful today. We are competing against video games and television. We can make reading a book or solving a math problem be interactive too with the use of a Starboard and these other tools. I just need a little help to reach this goal!

I teach 1st grade, special education inclusion in a charter school in a struggling city in Michigan.

The students I work with need additional help to keep their attention. They need to have engaging experience in learning to encourage them to come to school and continue to learn. The school I work in has faced very high budget cuts, limiting almost the whole budget for technology.

My Project

Competing with the real world stimulus children get, we need to be creative in our processes to present information to children. If they are able to interact with the information while learning it, they are more likely to be able to retain it later. The children I work with are used to video games and television. I need to find ways to successfully engage them and encourage them at the same time. The number of activities that can be done to pull students in and have them interact with learning is infinite. Technology is taking over in the classrooms that are being successful.

I don't want the fact that our budget for technology was cut to interfere with providing the best learning experiences for these kids. They deserve it!
