Technology ignites a spark! Having access to technology has ignited a spark within some of my most struggling students. It has given them a new found confidence and a connection to school that they never experienced in the past. My students love to be challenged.
They love to learn new things.
They are very excited about technology and will jump at any chance to explore new learning sites and applications. My school works very hard to get technology into the hands of our students. Next year we are just 5 Chromebooks shy of having 1 to 1 Chromebooks in second grade. I would love to expose students to this technology in the primary grades so they are fluent in technology by the time they are in the intermediate grades. This fall we were given the gift of three Chromebooks to utilize in our classroom. The excitement and engagement from my students was beyond what I expected.
My Project
My students utilize Chromebooks for every aspect of their everyday learning. Some of their favorite ways to use the Chromebook are to practice their weekly word patterns, play math games to strengthen their addition and subtraction fluency, and as a listening center where they are busy building their reading fluency. When asked what they think about having this new technology in our classroom. Students responded by saying it not only helps them with their learning, it makes learning fun. They look forward to every day because they know that in every subject we cover, they will have an opportunity to use the Chromebooks. They also love that they are now so fluent with Google Chrome that they get to teach their parents how to log on and navigate bookmarks, apps and Google drive. We need one Chromebook so that my classroom can have 1 to 1 Chromebooks to to access various learning sites where they can practice their reading fluency .
Having access to a Chromebook has ignited a quest for learning within some of my most struggling students.
It has given them a new found confidence and a connection to school that they never experienced in the past. My students are doing great things with the current technology we have, but I know they will do amazing things if they had the chance to have access to their own Chromebook day in and day out. Please help me make this dream a reality for my students.
