Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special little individuals. My students are first-grade dual language students that are working toward being bilingual and bi-literate.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several obstacles both in and out of the classroom.
Despite the many obstacles they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative, engaging and meaningful learning experiences.
They are living proof that when you put your mind to it, you can do anything. They reside in a community that is a highly impoverished area that lies under the LAX runway. Noise, smog, graffiti, drug activity, gangs, and violence are all part of their day-to-day life. They are survivors and embody resiliency.
My Project
We have used a lot of our basic supplies this school year and need many things replaced. These supplies keep our classroom running smoothly on a daily basis. Funding in my district is extremely limited at this time and does not provide for even the most basic of supplies. We are in need of a projector screen and extension cord. These materials will make a huge difference in our classroom by ensuring that we have everything we need to be successful in our 1st-grade classroom! The pull down screen will allow us to watch educational content without having to deal with all the glare. The projector will enhance and project our writing pieces without glare. These materials will allow my students to experience success in all content areas as they learn in my classroom. The extension cord will help move around our projector.
My project is important because without your help we would not be able to receive these materials that we so desperately need to keep our classroom running as smoothly as possible.
