Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Let's face it: technology-based interactive games are really fun! My middle school students agree and love using the activities and tutorials on an iPad to complete their objectives and strive towards our Big Goal. Interactive games appeal to visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learning styles.
My students are seventh and eighth graders with special needs ranging from Autism, emotional handicaps, cognitive impairments to ADHD.
Our school is a science, technology, engineering and mathematics magnet effectively serving students who live in high poverty households. Ninety percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Through innovative programs, we are showing some of the most rapid growth in the state as measured by standardized test score improvement.
My Project
I am asking for 1 iPad mini-tablet to use with both my special needs and general education students. This will add to the one that our class already has and allow more students to be able to benefit from the technology. I have found many valuable apps that enable my students to take their learning into their own hands (literally)! They feel empowered when they are in control of the lesson or game. It benefits them greatly to be able to see an immediate effect of the effort they are putting in.
This iPad will give my students a chance to enhance their technology-literacy skills as well as increase their engagement to aid in the comprehension of the material we are working on.
