Technology Fun for ALL

Help me give my students the opportunity to access technology in their Science and Health classes with the purchase of these laptops so that they can access virtual labs to enhance learning!

My Students

As a low-income community, our students rarely have tech at home. Our school spends a lot on supporting our students' basic needs, but technology is lacking. Students in General Education Classrooms typically have access to laptops, but our SLA students are in need of additional technology to support their learning.

My Project

At our Title I, very low income school, our students receive free breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner and are offered support services in the community for mental and physical health. We are the largest high school in Duval County with over 3000 students in multiple programs.

The department for (SLA) Supported Level Academics serves students with Exceptional Needs, (ESE) or Special Education (SPED), as well as EBD, (Emotional, Behavioral Disabilities).

These students are learning basic life skills as well as academics in small group settings of approximately 15 per classroom. The majority of our SLA students are on a 3rd grade reading and math level, and they have little access to technology or education supports at home.

These low-income, high-need SLA/ESE students rarely have the opportunity to visit museums, utilize technology programs, or use science lab materials that Gen Ed students enjoy and learn from.

In our science classroom alone, we have no lab materials, and laptops would provide the opportunity for virtual labs in biology and health. These laptops would provide additional reading programs for our lowest achieving readers to reduce the gap. These laptops would also allow additional math instruction for students who do not learn well in traditional classroom environments.
