Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a bilingual first grade class in the Bronx. This is a low income area of the Bronx. My population is high need because my students are new to the country and have to acquire the language at the same time as all other academic skills. Help at home is limited. Most parents do not speak the language and/or work long, late hours to make ends meet. My students are highly energetic, fun loving, eager to learn and participate in fun classroom activities.
My Project
My students need an iPad in order to help them with college and career readiness. With these iPads we can create groups that can do research together and find on level resources for all subject areas including math, ELA, and science. My students need this technology to enrich their education. If they can have an iPad, we will use it throughout the day to create groups that are working on similar levels and/or skills. While I'm working with other groups these students will still be supported by educational programs on the iPad. My students will greatly benefit from being exposed to different models of learning. This population's resources are limited which makes technology at school a great tool to get and keep their attention. Learning with technology is fun and can have a lasting effect. My students are ENLs which means they are new to the country, culture, and language. Technology can ease their educational and social hurdles.
