The students of our class are 6th-8th grade students who can be described as multi-everything: gender, age, race, ethnicity, learning ability, and grade level. I have the privilege of teaching this group of hard working of students, who have been diagnosed with one or more of the seven disability categories under Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), for several years.
All of my resource students require individualized learning support and services.
These students are below grade level, but are eager to reach their full potential. However, they need technological assistance and educational modification tools to help them succeed. At the present, the resource room is not included the school's rotation of technological equipment; with DonorsChoose.org's assistance, I can help my students reach their educational goals.
Integrating technology into the classroom is an effective way to connect with students of all learning styles. The Chromebooks will help in keeping my unorganized, and sometimes forgetful, students organized and responsible. All assignments will be a click away. With the help of apps like Google Docs, students can access their work from anywhere.
The Chromebooks will also help students stay engaged with the information they are learning.
With the extra Chromebooks, my students will have access to self-paced learning programs such as Aleks & Khan Academy (math), Read Theory (reading comprehension), No Red Ink (language arts), and typing programs.
The traditional learning model, where teachers talk and students just listen, is broken. By means of technology in the classroom, I become the encourager, adviser, and coach.
