Millions of students across the United States cannot benefit fully from a traditional educational program; they have a disability that impairs their ability to participate in a typical classroom environment. The resource students of Room 20 at Caroldale Learning Community are grossly under sourced. My students live in a low-income community where parents work two or three jobs to make ends meet. Time spent with their child's learning is scarce and providing extra resources such as a typewriter or computer just isn't in the budget. Caroldale is a public school in the second largest, and severely underfunded, district in the country. Room 20 students work hard despite having basic necessities and a less than ideal classroom to work in.
