Technology for Math in Our Classroom

Learning through technology is challenging and fun! What a great combination!

Our school is in a high poverty area.

Many of our students come to our school with out school readiness skills. This is reflected in our test scores. As teachers, we are constantly looking for new, engaging ways to teach our children. Nothing engages a child like technology! Using technology in the classroom is a great way to learn new skills, and reinforce our lessons.

My Project

Currently our classroom have no computers or tablets. There is an iPad cart that comes to our room for one hour a day, which we are expected to use for math instruction and practice. The problem is, what happens if your students don't complete their math assignments in that hour? When our hour is over, we have to send the iPad cart to the next room, ready or not. I would like to use the tablets to give my students the opportunity to work on their math lessons during other parts of the day, when we no longer have access to the iPads. Also, I would like to use the tablets to play educational games during our daily learning centers. Using technology to reinforce what has been taught in the classroom is a win win situation. The students love to do it, and the teachers love what they learn!

This project will make a world of difference in math skills for my students.

My students are struggling in math, yet we are expected to do our math lessons and practice on iPads that we can only use for an hour a day. Simply put, my kids need more time. Please help me give them more time to practice their math skills, and have some fun while learning!
