Our school is a magnet school in Metairie, Louisiana, compromised of students in grades 6-12. The population consist of 730 students from diverse cultural backgrounds. They work extremely hard, engaging in rigorous curricular and participating in various clubs, such as Academic Games, MathCounts, Robotics, Student Council, and Yearbook to name a few.
What distinguishes us from other schools is the rigor of academic classes offered.
Our students may enter college with enough credits to complete their first semester. What distinguishes us from other schools is the lack of technology available to our hard-working students.
Our school has been closed since March 16th due to the stay at home order. I am now using distance learning to continue educating my students. I communicate with them daily. My district issued a laptop about 10 years ago and that is what I am currently using to teach, answer emails, conference with colleagues via video, tutor individual students and give feedback to students. The lack of a guaranteed working device is challenging when students' needs are my utmost priority. Please help me make distance learning a bit easier!
