My Students
If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow. - John Dewey.
My goal is to establish and maintain a 21st century learning environment that will empower my students to reach their maximum potential as learners and as citizens in a highly technical society.
I teach fifth grade in a large suburban K - 5 school in South Carolina.
The students I teach come from very diverse backgrounds, and they have a wide range of interests, needs and abilities.
Although my students have many differences, they also have many things in common. One common interest that my students share is technology. My students enjoy using technology in the classroom, and are more engaged in learning when technology is integrated into their learning experiences. Our school has a "Bring Your Own Device" policy, so students are able to bring their own devices to school for instructional purposes. While there are many students whose parents are able to supply them with their own smart phone or tablet, there are still many students who come from families who are unable to provide their children with such devices. Each classroom has some available devices for students, but we do not have enough for each child who is unable to bring his or her own device.
My Project
Having the three additional tablets will help decrease our student to device ratio. My ultimate goal is to have a 1:1 ratio of students to devices.
Students will be able to use the additional tablets in technology integrated lessons and learning activities. As a teacher of students with various learning styles and needs, differentiating instruction takes priority in my classroom. Students will be able to use the tablets to access valuable learning apps that will aid in individualizing instruction. In addition, the tablets will enable students to conduct research across the curriculum using web tools. They will work independently and cooperatively to create videos and other multimedia presentations to reflect their learning. The tablets will also be used for synchronized learning activities with Nearpod and Classflow. Students will be able to collaborate with other learners as well as experts in various fields through Skype, videoconferencing and microblogging.
Adding the three Samsung tablets to our classroom will put devices in the hands of students who otherwise would not have them.
I will be able to provide more opportunities for technology integrated learning because we will have enough devices for each student in the class. Using technology as a learning tool will engage students and ultimately increase achievement among students in my class.
