I teach fifth grade in a large suburban K - 5 school in South Carolina. The students I teach come from very diverse backgrounds, and they have a wide range of interests, needs and abilities. Although my students have many differences, they also have many things in common. One common interest that my students share is technology. My students enjoy using technology in the classroom, and are more engaged in learning when technology is integrated into their learning experiences. Our school has a "Bring Your Own Device" policy, so students are able to bring their own devices to school for instructional purposes. While there are many students whose parents are able to supply them with their own smart phone or tablet, there are still many students who come from families who are unable to provide their children with such devices. Each classroom has some available devices for students, but we do not have enough for each child who is unable to bring his or her own device.
