Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from diverse backgrounds. Our school is located in a low-income area and is a Title One school. The difference in culture and the challenges of living in a low income area does not discourage my students in their love of learning.
I have 18 students and 14 of them are learning English as a second language.
My students need access to technology, books, and other resources that are as diverse as they are. They are excited to explore the world around them, they just need the right tools to do so.
My Project
I would like to purchase iPads for my classroom to facilitate learning across all academic areas. iPads will open up countless opportunities for them to explore the world outside of their neighborhood.
My students love to utilize technology and to get hands-on experience with 21st Century technology.
They enjoy exploring fiction and non-fiction books, science, and getting their hands on math tools. However, my classroom does not have full sets of some of our instructional materials, including computers. All of my students enjoy using our desktop computers, but the computers are not very fast and are not always reliable.
Having iPads will help my students continue to work collaboratively and make gains in math and language arts. It will also further expose them to technology use and care. The App Store has countless numbers of educational apps that will help learners at any academic level. This will also provide extra support for my second language learners.
