My students need 5 Chromebooks for daily use in small groups, because in a technologically evolving world they deserve essential digital tools to aid in their preparation for college and career readiness.
The third grade scholars I serve are full of promise, inquisitive, and eager to discover their sense of place in our classroom/school. Although unknowingly, at this phase of their lives, they each have a stash of life experiences that are the foundation from which their precious stories begin. Hardships abound, but do not define these youngsters. Our academy is a haven for these young minds to begin charting their own course by visualizing and goal-setting for their future.
In our classroom, scholars learn that kindness prevails, productive engagement yields success and collaboration deepens our understanding.
About 50% of my third grade students are learning English as a second language, and while working to acquire English proficiency, are trying to grapple with academic rigors. All scholars at our school are provided with free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
The five Chromebooks I need for my classroom will be used daily during small group instruction, offering students consistent accessibility to digital literacy platforms. As my students are building reading stamina and capacity, they need rich experiences in navigating digital media with proficiency. In addition to the 21st century relevancy, my third graders are faced with taking our state standardized assessment online versus paper/pencil and need technology experiences comparable to how they will be assessed. As a National Board Certified teacher, I realize the disparity that exists within our education systems. These Chromebooks will afford my scholars a more equitable opportunity for learning success.
