This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"If my possessions were taken from me with one exception...I would choose to keep the power of communication; for by it, I would soon regain all the rest." - Daniel Webster Communication, both verbal and non-verbal is what makes us human and allows us to explore and experience the world around us.

All of my students have been identified as having special needs in the area of Speech and Language, some of them are autistic.

Preschoolers have delays in their receptive and expressive language as well as significant delays in their development of oral sound acquisition. Therefore, it is very difficult for many of them to communicate and express their wants and needs due to their communication delays.

My Project

Tablets are a wonderful new technology that has enormous potential to help a student who has limited oral language to express themselves. First of all, students, especially preschoolers, are attracted to all of the vivid visual stimulation found on a tablet.It captures their attention and motivates them to be engaged in the activity. They can participate in a tablet activity and feel successful without always having to rely on verbal communication.

I feel my project is so important because I am trying to help my students increase or improve their ability to express themselves and communicate their wants and needs.

How can a student be successful in school if they cannot participate in oral classroom routines and activities? If they cannot express their basic wants and needs or respond to a teachers question?

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
