Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The environment in which students learn plays a powerful role in their ability to grow socially, emotionally, and academically. Our campus Kindness Lab is a shared space for students in grades 3 to 5 to participate in social emotional learning lessons, coping skills instruction, small group activities, and Kindness Club meetings. This project is designed to strengthen that environment so students can fully engage, feel emotionally safe, and thrive during these important learning experiences.

The Kindness Lab is used regularly for SEL lessons that teach students how to manage emotions, build empathy, problem solve, communicate respectfully, and develop self confidence.

These skills support success in the classroom and in everyday life. Lessons often include guided discussions, visual supports, mindfulness activities, and quiet reflection, all of which are more effective when students feel calm and supported by their surroundings.

This space is also home to our Kindness Club, where students collaborate to promote compassion, leadership, and a positive school culture. During club meetings, students work together, share ideas, and learn how small acts of kindness can make a meaningful impact. A thoughtfully designed environment helps students feel comfortable participating, expressing themselves, and building strong connections with peers.

This project brings together tools and elements that intentionally support emotional learning. Technology allows students to engage with SEL visuals, coping strategies, mindfulness activities, and small group movement such as age appropriate yoga. The overall environment supports focus, calmness, and a sense of belonging. Together, these resources help create a space where students can slow down, reflect, and practice the social emotional skills they will rely on throughout their school years and well into adulthood.

Ultimately, this supports the whole child by ensuring the Kindness Lab remains a place where students feel valued, and supported as they build skills for school and life success.
