Technology and Art: Creating A Historical Art With Modern Skills

Help me give my students materials for creating simulated stained glass with their 3D modeling skills using UV Resin.

My Project

Our class thrives on innovation and creativity, and the more of this that we engage in, the more our students are able to thrive and find pathways that interest them. Our 3D printers allow us to explore our creativity, using it to encourage out of the box thinking is another way to engage our students at a higher level. Many of our students represent underserved communities and providing these opportunities will open doors to interests that they might otherwise not get to experience. In this case, providing resin, tape, and UV lights to show them how stained glass is used to make art. Many students may have seen these in churches and other places but may not have ever thought about what goes into making them. In this project they will design the frames, 3D print them, and then fill the openings with the colored resins to produce a stained-glass effect.

Our students are creative and thoughtful innovators who are always wanting to learn something new and try out new technologies.

We are in the top 2% of most diverse schools in the country and more than 50% of our students live at or below the poverty level. Our budget for supplies and materials is less than $2 per student for the year, and this allows us to develop a program that serves the needs of our students while engaging them in authentic experiences.
