My Students

The students at my school come from very diverse backgrounds. Many students speak a language other than English. Some come from third-world countries. Some students are dealing with stresses such as living in poverty or being homeless. Our district has the “most diverse” student body in the country. It is a K-8 school where I teach 4th grade. There are various support levels and resources at home. My students come to school everyday to learn and grow with the various backgrounds they bring. Our classroom has become a place where students challenge themselves to learn and grow.

My students come together every morning to start as a "family".

We emphasize the strength of togetherness. At my school we learn from each other to create a better future. Help us create a more comfortable learning environment where we can be happy, safe, and grow!

My Project

These materials will make a large difference in my classroom. I teach in centers so that students have built in movement throughout the day. One center is a technology center where students use chromebooks to watch videos or play interactive games that support the content they are learning in class. Right now I have two classes that use the same 5 pairs of headphones that I currently have. My students are low income so they do not have their own to bring in. This means most of the time students are playing out loud videos which can be hard to hear with the chromebook speaker as well as a distraction for students in other centers at the time. The doorbell is also useful because it will help signal when it is time to transition to the next center which students need support in.
