My Students

I teach in an alternative learning program called Project Ulupono. Our mission is to provide a meaningful education for students who otherwise have experienced failure or difficulty within a traditional academic setting. We believe that in building supportive relationships with our students and their families we are better equipped to support them in their learning and academic goals.

Project Ulupono focuses on the students' social and emotional well-being which we believe is essential to their academic success.

Our program addresses student needs by integrating curriculum that focuses on skills needed to enter the workforce and/or attend a post high school institution.

About 80% of the students who attend our school commute from an outlying area of 112 square miles to our campus. School data shows that the percentage of students who receive free and reduced priced meals continues to increase each year. Due to the type of community we have our school is eligible for federal funding for free lunch and transportation. Many of our students are from low income, high poverty areas and are faced with numerous community challenges.

My Project

Students in Project Ulupono will be using school issued iPad's this school year. I am asking for your support in purchasing these iPad stylus pens to be used in the classroom as a tech tool for those who are not comfortable with typing on their iPads. Many of my students are not comfortable using technology and may find it overwhelming. The stylus pens will support those students by providing them with a familiar tool that can be used like a regular pencil/pen.

In providing my students with the proper tech tools, they will gain confidence in their tech skills and will build these skills to support themselves in the future.
