Tech-Savvy Students Need More Tech!

My students need a Chromebook. We do many classroom projects and assignments online, which helps prepare them for online state and district assessments. My classroom needs one more Chromebook, and the school cannot afford another.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. S.'s classroom raised $244

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some may see working with preteens and teens as a challenge, but I see it as an opportunity. Throughout my years of teaching, these students have taught me more than I ever could have imagined. They come to school with a drive to learn and challenge the way I think and teach in the best way possible. They have helped mold me into the teacher I am today and I couldn't be more thankful.

I teach 6th grade in a Title 1 school in Connecticut where many of my students come from bilingual homes and receive free or reduced lunch.

My school is in a high poverty/low income area. Despite many coming to school with challenging home-lives, my students come to school excited to learn and happy to be in an environment in which they feel safe and welcome. They have great enthusiasm for learning and amazing ideas to share. They work their hardest day in and day out. I strive to help them make the most out of each school day and to feel as though they have accomplished something each and every day. They work hard and find success in the face of adversity.

My Project

Having another chromebook will make a world of difference in my classroom. I have a class set of 26 chromebooks provided by the school through a technology grant, however, I have a classroom of 27 students. I have a student desktop computer, but it is unreliable as it often crashes or simply does not work. It is ineffective for students to attempt to share Chromebooks as they have individual logins, projects, and assignments. We use these devices in class on a daily basis, as well as for state and district testing.

Technology helps my students to be better learners.

We live in a digital world. Using technology to read, create a project or research is alluring and gets them interested in what they are doing. We use Chromebooks to create digital projects, to read with support, to research and to share our ideas with one another. This is the day and age of technology. Exposing students to this technology will help them to succeed in the future and in the real world.

I can also use this technology to support struggling students as there are many apps I can install, such as apps which will read a text or help define difficult or unknown words. These apps are great support for students who read at lower levels or are English language learners. I am also able to hold digital conferences with students which helps me to reach more students every day as we can work together to find information or edit their projects.
