Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students diversify from low-income, bilingual kids to advanced monolingual full parental home support kids.
A few of my students live in foster group homes and struggle with behavior, motivation, and social aspects due to life events that they, unfortunately, have endured.
Others have just arrived from other countries and have never used an ipad or chromebook before. Other kids have their own ipads at home and smart watches and need the extra guidance to develop and enrich their technology skills to better prepare them to tomorrow’s tech world. Our school has a 1 to 1 student to chromebook ratio this year, which has allowed me to use technology in the classroon such as interactive games, activities, and educational videos and programs in order to engage, motivate, and facilitate the students’ academic growth and interest.
My Project
Today’s students are exposed to technology everywhere they go. Why not use it to develop their analytical thinking and build strong adademic foundations by engaing them using what they like. An iPad like this one will allow me to deliver the curriculum in a way that will both motivate and challenge my students this year and for years to come!
Ignacio Estrada’s quote “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn” speaks volumes when referring to technology in the classroom.
With the use of the keyboard, I can take my instructional and lesson planning with me anywhere I go. Snapping a picture of how math is used in the real world and incorporate it to the geometry lesson that we are covering in class is one way I plan to use this iPad. Taking that same picture and making annotations in various colors with the iPen will allow the students to make the connections between the classroom and the real world. Making a video of the lesson presented in class with the use of educational apps such as doceri, or monitoring and providing immediate support whether at home or in the classroom through the classkick app, are just a few of the ways that the kids’ education can be enriched through the use of technology.
The iPad and its two accessories are not only needed, but they are now vital in order to effectively reach my current class and generations to come. Please support my students with your generosity and financial support for this project. Thank you!
