My Students

When was the last time you shared your laptop screen with your 10 closest friends? Probably never. So, we are hoping you will fund our project to help us learn more and share less. Otherwise, we are stuck using a set of World Book Encyclopedias from 1982 for research.

My school has one of the highest poverty rates in the district.

Over 60% of our students receive free/reduced lunches. Over 1/3 of our population are learning English as a Second Language. All of our students are excited to learn and are clamoring for new experiences to broaden their language skills. Technology is a fantastic way to encourage their independent learning as well as their communication skills.

My Project

Ideally, I would have one iPad for every 3 students in the class - this project would bring me up to 5 total, 5 more to go. The students will use the iPads for research, writing, reading, math practice and a variety of other skills. I can't wait to see what amazing strategies they will teach me beyond what I can teach them. Students living in poverty and learning a second language struggle more than the average student. They need more exposure to language and a variety of strategies to attack real world problems. Teaching them the technology of today will make them ready to learn the technology of the future, as well as building core skills. Building these skills will enable them to level the playing field for learning.

My students need an iPad with basic protection for the case and screen, headphone splitters as well as an external keyboard for practicing typing.

Sharing an iPad is not an ideal learning environment for more than 2 students.
