When I first posted this project, my goal was to bridge the gap between our students' basic needs and their academic potential. Because of your generosity, we have seen a profound shift in our classroom environment.\r\n\r\nHow this project impacted student learning:\r\nIn first grade, the cognitive demand of learning to read and master foundational math is very high. When students are hungry or lack the proper tools, their \"learning brains\" often shut down in favor of \"survival brains.\" Your donation has directly impacted their ability to stay in a state of focused learning. I have noticed a significant increase in stamina during our literacy blocks; students who previously struggled to stay engaged are now able to participate fully, knowing they have the snacks and resources they need to keep their energy up.\r\n\r\nBecause of the materials provided by you, I have been able to reclaim valuable instructional time. I am no longer spending my teaching moments managing the emotional or physical fallout of a student who is distracted by hunger or broken equipment. This has allowed me to dive deeper into our \"Science of Reading\" curriculum and provide more consistent, high-quality small-group instruction. I can now teach with the confidence that my students are physically ready and equipped to receive the information I am sharing.\r\n\r\nThank you, Ripple, for recognizing that successful teaching begins with a well-supported classroom. Your investment has not only provided materials but has empowered these young learners to reach their next growth areas with confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1767975820774,"projectUrl":"project/a-little-fuel-for-big-dreams/9749669/","projectTitle":"A Little Fuel for Big Dreams","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Michelle Frias","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7503315_orig.jpg?crop=887,887,x256,y904&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1599197274527","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-michellefrias"},{"teacherId":7503315,"projectId":9243911,"letterContent":"I wanted to reach out and share my deepest gratitude for your incredibly generous donation of snacks to our classroom through DonorsChoose. Many of our students come in with high energy and big appetites, and having these snacks on hand ensures that no child is trying to learn on an empty stomach. Because of your kindness, I am now able to provide my students with the \"fuel\" they need to stay focused during our morning lessons and afternoon activities.\r\n\r\nHaving these snacks available allows my students to truly focus during their \"read-to-self\" time and carry out their daily work with energy and zero distractions from hunger. We started off by reading two different versions of Stone Soup and discussing the meanings behind them. We talked about what things we could do when we all worked together.\r\nOn a different day we practiced measuring with cups and spoons to understand how they worked for recipes. Then we got busy building our soup into jars. The kids were so excited to make a meal for their families and couple of spares for staff. They carefully crafted their jars and recipe cards. They selected fabric that brought the right festive touch and then they decorated a bag to hold all of the pieces for their dinner. \r\nOver the next week, kids shared about making the soup and how good it was.
