Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a low-income/high poverty area, and many of them are from immigrant families. These student are often in charge of taking care of their younger siblings and have more responsibilities than your average middle school student. They face challenges both in and outside of school. Many of them do not have technology in their households to meet the needs of the ever evolving classroom and world around them. That being said, they are still a huge inspiration to me every day. Because of my students, I am learning to be more patient, to be kind, selfless, and composed.

With your help, I will be able to set up comfortable testing environments for these students which include headphones and mice!

My goal as an educator is to make the classroom an accepting community where everyone feels like they belong and can learn to their fullest potential. With your help, I want to make all my student love learning and feel comfortable with their online testing system because you provided them the tools for success!

My Project

Recently, my school district moved all student assessments to an online based system. This includes all Lexile testing, interim testing and state testing. While this is the correct direction given how technology continues to grow in our schools, I still work in a Title I district where many students can not afford to have computers at home. Furthermore, in their technology class in school, they use desktops while for testing they use Chromebooks. Many students struggle to navigate their tests using a track pad, and the school does not provide headphones for read alouds or parts of tests that require sound. By funding this project, you will be helping set my students up for success during their next round of testing!
