Every year, I have the honor of working with an amazing group of students who bring with them a variety of background experiences. I teach at a school in a high-poverty area of Northern California, with ninety-nine percent free or reduced price lunch.
With all the adverse conditions in Butte County (Oroville Dam evacuation, Camp Fire, etc), my students need a calm classroom in order to focus.
Building knowledge and literacy is a main focus of my classroom.
The students at my school represent a wide variety of cultures and literacy levels. The students at my school display an incredible desire to build their core knowledge in language arts.
My students are working on speaking and listening activities using their Chromebooks. Activities like recording their voices reading aloud or describing their research with an audio track would enhance their development as students and English speakers.
Headphones with microphones are a small piece of technology with big impact for students who are developing their listening and speaking skills.
Recording technology would enhance our ability to share our knowledge with the world. My students have a lot of ideas in their heads, and sharing those ideas with their voices can only enhance the learning projects and research activities they enjoy creating.
