Tech for Oral Communications, English Literature, & Graphic Design

Help me give my students technology advancements for our classroom. I am doing a unique approach to Oral Communications by including different forms of communications (coding, Graphic Design (posters, braille), etc.). This tech is also for English Literature.

My Students

My students love hands-on, active, engaging projects. Many students in my classroom have difficulty completing practice assignments at home because of the lack of supplies and resources. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met.

As English learners, books are so important to my students and are truly valued.

Many of my students do not have access to books at home. We do not have enough classroom books for each student and difficulty ordering books for reading as well due to funding for ALE. I am also teaching Oral Communications and I would like to have a diverse set up in my classroom. It is a dream to allow students the ample amount of exploration through many different mediums (including Fine & Digital Arts). I have an Art & English background. I combine both through Literarcy.

ALE isn’t for bad kids, these kids struggle to get to school every day at regular schools because the lack of transportation, families often struggle with finding employment and keeping a job. Therefore, keeping their grades up to par can be a struggle as well. Having resources are important.

My Project

I combine Art with Literature/English and Oral Communications as much as possible and my students tend to learn better this way and are more interested during classroom discussions. My students are happy when they can create an artistic vision. Since I will be teaching Graphic Design, computers for Digital Arts and Coding are greatly needed. The desktop computers will be shared during group and independent work to help aid students when the use of tech presents itself. This will be used in a classroom setting only. No outside use. The technology will be treated with both love and care.

For Oral Communications, I will teach sign language, but also different methods of communication through Graphic Design & Coding, which will require the desktop computers and programs such as Adobe Creative Suite.

The use of computers and drawing tablets will be used to allow students to explore modern tech (STEM) a way of digital arts communication. Introducing students to code and digital arts, especially Graphic Design, since it is everywhere (road signs, posters for upcoming events--rather it’s a school event, museum, etc. is a type of oral communication) it allows students to open themselves up to a broader field of choice and gets them thinking about various possible career paths. Students will also be able to create communication graphics for school events such as our sports team and other extra-curricular activities. Graphic Design can also show my students, who are mostly 11-12th graders, ways things look on a page. A lot of students have interests in page layout, especially for resumes, cover letters, and references page. This would be a great aid!! I would like to have headphones in my classroom as well for Oral Communications and a standalone microphone. This is to help with video and interview projects.
