Team Sports in First Grade!

My students need a secure ball locker as well as soccer, basketball, and rubber balls to play team sports on our school's playground.

My Students

My students come from a blue-collar coastal town in rural Maine. They are exuberant, smart, and very interested in the world around them. Although many of them live in homes with financial challenges, they courageously view themselves as capable learners, ready to tackle the world.

I believe my first graders have unlimited potential.

They just need our help and guidance so that they are able to realize their promise as future teachers, engineers, doctors, and scientists. It is up to me as one of their first teachers to provide the foundation they need to prepare them for the career of their choice.

My Project

My students will become members of basketball, football, or soccer teams if this project is funded. They will use all of the different kinds of balls when playing on these teams. They will then have more opportunities to learn about friendship and camaraderie. Playing together to reach a goal will help them learn to cooperate, and will also enable them to develop their leadership skills. They will learn to appreciate classmates with stronger or weaker abilities. My first graders will also develop a sense of belonging by working together as a team to accomplish a goal. They will learn how to socially interact in a team environment, and develop their physical skills including coordination and balance. Most importantly, they will have lots of fun!
