Teaching Writing With a Document Camera

My Students

My students are diverse, unique, and full of life.

My students all learn differently, but one thing is the same; they are all capable of moving mountains.

I have two inclusion English 1 classes first and fourth period, and one general English 1 course. No matter the home life, IQ, race or gender of my students, I believe they are all capable of succeeding in my class, in high school, in college, and in life. I hope to give these students the tools that they need to move forward and be the best that they can be.

My Project

Teaching writing is hard. There’s no one “right” way to do it, and it’s almost impossible to explain. Right now, I am teaching writing using my whiteboard and Expo markers. The only problem with this is that after every class, I have to erase the board and start over! Although this may seem like a small problem, it causes me to have to ask students where we left off, rewrite everything on the board for students that may have been absent or didn't finish writing, and when I run out of room, I must erase things to create more room.

Imagine what we could accomplish with a document camera.

It would allow me to save the spot where we stopped, edit essays in real-time for the students to see, and allow my students to see me write with them.
