Teaching With Technology!

My students need the iPad in the classroom to provide individualized instruction to students. We do have a set of computers for reading comprehension but the ports for the headphones are broken.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are from a very low income, high poverty area on the West side of Charlotte, N.C. Many of them are in families who struggle to provide basic needs for their children. Many of our students take care of younger siblings at home. Our school provides them with a safe, stable environment where they can not only learn but for 7 hours a day just be a "kid".

75% of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.

They are fortunate to have 2 full-time teachers in their classroom all day. This enables us to effectively meet their needs both academically, socially and emotionally. Every morning, we are at the door to greet them with a smile and a warm hug to begin their day. This allows them to leave any sort of struggles or stress they may have had at home at the door.

Our day is filled with many hands-on learning opportunities. They also receive small group and one-on-one instruction where needed. My students deserve the very best educational experience. Regardless of the environment that a child is born into, they all deserve the same experiences that they will carry with them for a lifetime.

My Project

The iPad will allow me to customize student learning using various apps that cater to student needs. Apple has many learning apps that track student progress and design lessons for specific needs. Our student computers in the rooms do not have that capability.

Our classroom computers are functional but the ports for the headphones are broken.

The wireless headphones will allow more than one student to use our computers without disturbing each other.

The large easel is needed so that students can see better when we are making anchor charts and writing stories. Currently, I have to tape the chart paper onto the wall in order for them to see it This particular model also has wheels so that I can move it around the room for easier student access.
