My students are in a full inclusion school where many diverse needs are met. Many students have individualized educational programs and others are advanced in one classroom. In order to meet the needs of my students I need computers to gain access to the curriculum as well as challenge those students who need it.
My students need computers in order to have access to technology that will enhance their learning in Humanities class.
As a teacher in a full inclusion classroom, I work with many students who present with a variety of challenges academically, socially and behaviorally. But with those challenges my students are curious and excited to learn.
Using technology can help the variety of learners have in my classroom succeed.
My Project
Classroom computers will make a drastic difference in my students lives. Many of my students come from low-income homes where technology is not used daily and they are at a huge disadvantage in the world we live in today.
My students will use these computers for access to different reading levels, typing out written work, creating presentations using visuals and graphics and daily work stations.
During reading students can access their own reading levels in fiction and non-fiction stories, books and articles. If they have difficulty decoding or comprehending the text they can access an auditory version.
During writing students will be able to practice the necessary typing skills they will need for their life in education and in the world. Many students need extra practice as test require them to type and many do not have the stamina. It also gets the students engaged in their writing in a different way. If student need the accommodation of dictation because of their difficulty with fine motor skills these computers are able to do so.
During presentations the students In Humanities class, which includes Social Studies content, there are many ancient civilizations that we learn about and students can be creative to represent their knowledge. When working as individuals, partners or groups the students can present their knowledge of a concept or subject using a slide show, Prezi presentation, graphics and pictures.
