Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I recently learned that I would be teaching remotely for the rest of the school year. I am completely devastated to not see my students or classroom again this school year and maybe not even in the fall. I may not be in the classroom with my students, but our teaching and learning have not stopped. I am working harder than ever finding new ways to teach and engage my students. To better support my students remotely, I need updated technology. I teach in a high-poverty, low performing elementary school. The students at my school all receive free lunch because they come from families that are low income. Please don't let this part fool you though.
I firmly believe my students are all capable of learning and being successful.
I work hard to bring difficult skills and concepts to life for my second language learner students. You see, most of my students are just learning to master the English language. Any opportunity to learn in a visual and interactive way is greatly needed for my students. It is my daily goal to model and instill a love of learning in each of them. I work hard to make learning fun.
My Project
Because my students are mostly second language learners, they do best when learning is engaging, hands-on, and visual. This has become quite a challenge during distance learning. To better support my second-grade students, I am requesting a laptop computer to use while I work from home. With the use of this new laptop, I will have the technology necessary to video conference with my entire class. While we are together virtually, I can share my screen to present lessons, stream educational content, and present highly engaging digital lessons that I create on the computer.
Just because we cannot be together in the classroom does not mean that my students' learning has to stop.
I am excited to use the laptop to present new material in an exciting and visual format. Distance teaching has advanced my technology skills, and I am excited to have the equipment necessary to make learning continue to come alive in my virtual classroom. Second graders do not learn best by reading instructions or procedures. The do best when they can see me show them how to do something. With the use of the HD webcam, I will be able to record videos of me demonstrating new math concepts for example. Then I can share those videos with my class. Having updated technology at home will help me continue to deliver quality instruction both online and later when we can eventually return to the classroom.
