Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This next school year I am moving to 5th grade. I will be teaching math to 90 5th grade students that attend my school. My students love to learn and become very motivated with hands-on learning. My students come from a low-income, rural community, yet they continue to strive for improvement. Our school has a high migrant population and all of our students receive free lunch.
My classroom is full of eager learners who find value in learning.
They face daily life challenges at home, so I want to provide the best possible learning experience for them here at school! They come to school happy and ready to learn each and every day.
My Project
I am requesting professional development books to help develop my teaching craft. I am requesting books by Ron Clark, who is a student engagement mastermind. His books: "The End of Molasses Classes," "Move Your Bus," and "The Excellent 11" will help me develop teaching strategies that will better engage my students. I am also requesting books such as "Teach Like a Pirate" and "Learn Like a Pirate," that will also enhance my math teaching ability with a focus on my students' growth mindset and their mindfulness. I am also requesting a journal and writing utensils that I will use to reflect on my learning as I read.
