My Project

My students are attending the highest performing high school in the poorest, most segregated urban district in the nation. Year after year, over 98% of our graduates go on to colleges and universities all over the country.

The students need more opportunities to see themselves in texts they are exposed to.

This novel is a powerful story about Reconstruction told from the perspective of a teenage boy and has the capacity to provide access to a deeper understanding of a time period that helped to shape what they see in contemporary America.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
