My Project

I have an active group of first graders who are creative, enjoyable and curious. My students not only come to school to learn academics but also to learn how to be part of a community, how to build friendships and how to become more responsible. We engage in various hands-on and active learning to help students think outside the box. This semester, I am wanting to incorporate more cooperative learning in the classroom to help meet these needs.

Providing these opportunities daily allows our class to incorporate a variety of methods and learning to ensure all students' needs are met.

The games I have chosen for this project are a direct reflection of cooperative learning. Each game involves structuring classes around small groups that work together in such a way that each group member's success is dependent on the group's success to win the game. Cooperative learning helps to raise achievement of students, build positive relationships and provide experiences that develop both good learning skills and social skills.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
