This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Empathetic, flexible, and motivated are just a few words to describe our fantastic Spanish classes! Students enter our classroom knowing that each day we will lean the language and get to practice through group or individual projects. The relationships and classroom community that continues to build stronger each day is something that you can feel when you visit. Students make suggestions, share ideas, and serve as important decision-makers on how to is the best way to practice during class. Students know their voices are heard and what they have to share is important. We really are a team of learners, leaders, and listeners! We are...motivated!

My Project

All of my students want to learn about the Mexican Day "Dia de los Muertos. Our classes want to make their own altars but they cannot afford all the materials, nor can the school. In class, having individual altars allows each student to honor the dead in their family. This helps them with the basic idea of how the Mexican culture honors their dead. As they progress, they will be able to do team and independent work to build camaraderie and able to practice socialization. We will be able to invite other classes and the administration so they too can learn more about the Mexican culture The music used will provide many roles in the program for the students. First and foremost, it will give all students a chance to play music that their loved ones enjoyed. This will enhance the environment in the classroom, and create a beautiful mosaic of culture.
