Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are scientists, mathematicians, authors, illustrators, and imaginators.
I teach at a Title I School in Pasadena, Texas where more than 90% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
All of our students are considered high risk and live in a low income community that was affected by Hurricane Harvey. Even though my students face lots of challenges in and out of school everyday, they come to school excited and eager to learn.
My goal is to continue to enhance their thirst for knowledge and be able to provide everything and anything they may need to be successful.
My Project
As a kindergarten teacher small group instruction is a vital part of my day. This is where the students do most of their learning because it is based more on their individual needs. That is why I need a small group magnetic white board, dry erase markers and a variety of magnetic manipulatives to use during my small group instruction.
The magnetic white board can be used in many ways to differentiate instruction.
For instance, if we are learning about addition, I can write the problem on the white board and use the magnetic numbers to build the problem. Then we can use the aquatic counters to work out the problem. I can also use it when we are learning our sight words. I can model how to spell the word and they can then copy it on their own whiteboard. We can use the magnetic letter builders to build the word. The small group magnetic white board is very versatile and practical we can use it for everything.
I have a big white board in my classroom that I use for my word wall. I am in need of the magnetic picture pockets to put the student's names and picture on there. This helps them practice spelling their name and their friends names too.
As for the dry erase markers you can never have enough, especially in kindergarten. We use them in small group, whole group, and work stations.
