Help me give my students one on one technology to increase their knowledge and to work on online learning programs by providing us with Amazon Fire Tablets.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school sits in the heart of TN, where many of our families are classified as low-income, single-parent households, or homeless families, who don't have the essentials for survival. Many of our Rocketeers don't have shelter, food, cleaning products, clothes, or shoes. Our school is built on the foundation of love, where we provide our students with a safe environment and a place to call home. Our community has lived through the devastation of the March tornadoes, COVID-19 pandemic, Black Lives Matter movement, death of a student, and other traumatic experiences. All of these worldly crises have left our students and families in financial and emotional hardships they are now trying to dig out of.
The purpose of this project is to support our most vulnerable families who need social-emotional support, food, shelter, technology, or other financial resources.
I have taken ownership of connecting with our families through a program named Mending Our Hearts.
My Project
I have created a program named Mending Our Hearts. This support group is to provide opportunities for our students, parents, staff, and community to engage in whole-self development. This will happen through unapologetically sharing personal experiences, access to resources, technology support, firsthand information about diseases, treatments, and awareness in a judgment-free zone. Students will benefit from this because they will be successful in grade level learning and exceed test scores through virtual online learning programs used with the Amazon Fire tablets. Students will use Freckle to increase math fluency and Lightsail and Lexia to improve reading comprehension.
In this program, I will be teaching the importance of technology and how virtual learning is essential to our students' long-term success.
During each session (technology, social-emotional learning, behavioral and calming strategies, healthy living, and etc.) it will promote greater social and emotional competence. It will also increase the likelihood of high school graduation, readiness for postsecondary education, career success, positive family and work relationships, better mental health, reduced criminal behavior, and engaged citizenship!
