Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to school with varying needs. We are a Title I school where the majority of students come from low socio-economic backgrounds thus qualifying them for free or reduced meals. Most of my students have high academic needs, are English Language Learners, and come with socio-emotional needs as well. Still, they are bright, resilient learners who blossom with a lot of positivity and hard work.
For many of my students, school is a place of stability and nurture for them, but now I must provide this virtually.
My classroom is a place where hard work and perseverance are instilled. At the same time, laughter, kindness, and respect are valued. The challenge now is to provide a sense of routine and a lot of personal engagement virtually.
My Project
Your kind donation would go towards synchronous learning for students using an iPad Pro, keyboard, and Apple Pencil. Technology has become a necessary means to provide engaging, interactive instruction for my students during distance learning.
My students would benefit from learning in REAL-TIME as they will be able to receive direct instruction as I write on the iPad.
Students would benefit from watching me model writing directly on the iPad screen. They would be able to watch and engage with me in how to compose and edit paragraphs, solve math problems, or do an art lesson along with me and the class! My instruction has been by screen sharing and showing videos on my laptop last semester and for summer school. A huge hurdle lies in being able to demo and provide direct instruction. In addition, the keyboard will assist me with grading, typing assignments, providing student and family communication, and administrative work.
Teaching live digitally is the next best thing to being in the classroom physically with my students. More than ever as children are home, they need more personal engagement with their teacher and peers. I am looking forward to bringing my whole/small group instruction to a new level while fluidly moving between various teaching apps on this tablet. Your kind contribution will be much appreciated and utilized to provide a quality education that my students deserve.
