This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have found that my classroom has become an escape from the everyday life for many of my students. While I cannot directly control my students home life, I can create a welcoming environment for my students to look forward too, where creativity and imagination thrive.
Despite all the hardships, my students always find something to smile about.
They have strengthened my love of teaching, and while the students think they are the only ones that come to school to learn, they actually provide me with an equally valuable learning experience.
My Project
Each student will be assigned a mailbox and each table a cube organizer. The tables consist of 4 to 5 students with a designated group leader for the week. The leader will be in charge of all the materials contained in the cube organizer, and he or she will be responsible to gather and distribute the supplies to each group member.
While this may seem like a simple task, it will teach the kids organization, responsibility, leadership, and independence.
These are all skills that will be utilized throughout the student's life. Each student will play their roll and learn to put these skills to use.
