Teaching Kids to Teach Kids to Code

My students need Code and Go Mice, a Sphero Mini and BB-8, Botley, an open air computer case, and a microphone stand to design lessons to teach elementary students about computers and programming.

My Students

Robots and Drills and Saws, oh my! We are a class that creates. We are always designing something new and solving new problems. My students see something less than perfect and make it better. They imagine something and make it real. In my class, the only limits really are their imaginations.

These students are amazing and they need to share their awesome with the world.

Help me help them to make their work more relevant by helping them share their learning with the world.

My Project

Most teachers understand that one way to take a kid's learning to the next level is to have them teach someone at a lower level. By thinking about how and why they do the things they do, they reach a deeper level of understanding than they could have before.

I want to have my students teach younger grade children how to program.

To do this, they have to get down on their level. My students will use the robot mouse, sphero toys, botley and the other programming tools to teach 1st graders to program. They will use the open air computer case to make our VR Rig visible and portable.

Currently, we have a computer that I built to experience VR for my students hot glued to a shelf to keep it visible. This case will allow them to make that computer not only visible, but now portable. They will use that computer and the mic stand to record the sessions with the "littles" in order to share what they have learned.
