My students are eager to learn. Our school opened last year and we have encouraged our students to be flexible as we develop the culture and set up of their new school. We have a wide variety of needs at our school, including an Extended Resource room and a Gifted and Talented program for students in grades 3-5.
Our school promotes creativity as we try to meet the needs of all students.
The design of our school allows for creativity in the learning process. We see this in our flexible seating options in our classrooms to our wide hallways that promote a feeling of space. Our school is a great place to learn!
My Project
The students at H. Elementary are involved with a Empathy project where they get to discover and learn the emotions and interactions of a baby.
A baby comes to their classroom every 3 weeks.
The students make predictions on what developmental milestones the baby has achieved and how the emotions of a baby can relate to themselves.
Babies don't hide their emotions. As the students learn to identify the babies emotions, they also learn to identify their own feelings. they learn that just as a baby might feel overwhelmed, they also might have similar feelings. Understanding a babies emotions can lead to the development of empathy.
