With our ever growing world, our students interact with many different children from various backgrounds. Many students are not aware of how different upbringings enrich our world. Respect and being open to new opportunities are important character traits when showing diversity.
I teach fourth grade (along with several special education inclusion students) in a rural public school.
Poverty and unemployment rates are sky high in our area, and our students often do not receive the resources they need at home. Our unemployment rate is far above the national average, and about 70% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. The majority of my students have no access to computer technology or the Internet at home.
My Project
My class project is aimed at promoting diversity awareness with resources that teach students the importance of culture. The Lakeshore learning kits have theme boxes that promote culture awareness. Several of the themes focus on cultures around the world, which would allow my students to experience various cultures. Other themes include families, communities, and helpers. All of these tools help focus on character education traits that all students need to be respectful towards various diversities they may encounter.
Your donations to this project would help my students become more aware of the diversities that are in our nation.
Being able to use the Lakeshore learning kits, Cultures around the World theme library, and various other classroom supplies will assist my students in hands-on learning and technology, while promoting diversity awareness. Please help us to make this project a reality for my students.
