This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My amazing students attend a school for students with multiple disabilities. Many have suffered through multiple traumas and hospitalizations due to mental and physical health issues. They have great empathy for students in the hospital, and wanted to do a project to help them. My students have been working on get well cards to place in the gift bags. They want to make bags for different age kids so that everyone can get something.

My students would like to make gift bags for students who are in the hospital, and would like to make a card for them, as well as give them snacks, coloring books, crayons, and a fidget toy to help make their stay easier.

These bags will be given to a local children's hospital. Students will Facetime with nurses who will pass out the bags so that they can see how their project affected others (we will not watch gifts being passed out due to privacy issues).

I gave a presurvey before our lesson about compassion and helping others, after which students created a project. After the project is complete and they have had the conversation with nurses we will do a post-survey.

We are a Title I school due to the low socio-economic status of most of our students, so students cannot do this compassion project without the generous support of donors like you.
